Rider/Siena 10/28 Recap

By Rob Rose

The Broncs ended a three-game losing streak with a 7-0 victory over Siena on Oct. 21. Rider entered the game with a 4-4 record, after starting the season 3-0.

Senior forward Eric Bozzi opened the scoring in the first period, assisted by junior forward Cole Moskal and senior defender JJ Santagata.

At the end of the first period, Rider led 1-0.

The second period would be the deciding factor in the game, seeing the Broncs score four times. Santagata scored at the 3:14 minute mark, his first goal of the season, assisted by junior forward Nicolas Leelum.

Bozzi would add his second goal of the game, moments later after taking the puck away from a Saints defender. For Bozzi, it was his sixth goal on the season and third game with two goals this year.

Senior forward Chris Johnson scored a shorthanded goal for Rider off Santagata’s second assist of the game.

The Broncs’ penalty kill was strong against Siena, despite being called on nine times. Penalties have been an issue for Rider this season but strong defensive play and goaltending by junior goalie Angelo Perri shut down Siena.

The Broncs have been rotating Perri and junior goalie CJ Lineman but a hip injury to Lineman forced Perri into his second consecutive start and he answered the call.

Although the Saints were only able to generate 20 shots compared to 40 by Rider, Perri was dominant in Siena’s limited opportunities.

Forward Michael Klein scored his first goal, assisted by junior forward Vincent Arlotta, ending the second period with the Broncs leading 5-0.

In the third period, it was more of the same as Rider added two more goals. Forward Michael Katz scored off an assist from Moskal, the first goal of the year for Katz who made his season debut against Penn State.

Moskal would score the final goal of the game, assisted by Bozzi and Arlotta, finishing off the 7-0 victory.

The second 7-0 win of the season for Rider, brings its record to 5-4. The Broncs next game is Oct. 28 at Bridgewater State.
